Book: The Greatest Legacy

The Greatest Legacy
Sharing Our Faith With Our Grandchildren

by

Pat Parker

The Greatest Legacy is a guide for grandparents, urging them to bestow on their grandchildren the blessings available to them through knowledge of God. Grandparents possess great stores of riches which will enrich their grandchildren's lives.

Our society's negative influences on our grandchildren may be overcome when we involve our grandchildren in committed, intentional, planned experiences in the faith that has sustained us throughout our lives. What greater gift could we possibly give our grandchildren?

The Greatest Legacy's chapters on Faith, God, Jesus, The Holy Bible, Church and Worship, and Living Our Faith in the World describe resources we grandparents already have as people of faith. Each chapter is followed by activities through which adults and children may share faith experiences.

Discussions regarding doctrine and religious practices of specific churches and family heritage is left for grandparents to include as each shares with their grandchildren.

EXCERPTS: From Chapter 3

When we read the Bible we're in communication with God. We're also in touch with the ancient people who believed in God, those who put all their faith in Him as they experienced good times and bad times in their lives - often forsaking God, then returning again to Him from whom they received strength, refuge, hope, love, blessings, guidance, forgiveness and unending care.

The Bible is not only a history of these ancient people. It's a guidebook telling them and us how to live our lives as God wants us to live, how to have a close relationship with God, and how much God loves us and all His people.

It gives us answers to our questions. When we ask about God's existence, about His creative powers, His acceptance and forgiveness of our wayward behavior, His presence in our daily lives, we find answers in His Word.

From Chapter 4

Throughout both the Old Testament and the New Testament, we learn our purpose in life on Earth is to worship and praise God. To worship God is to honor and show reverence to Him, to respect Him, to exalt and glorify Him.

Worship of God helps us comprehend more and to see ourselves differently. We begin to discover God's purpose for our lives. Let's help our grandchildren set aside time for worship so they may learn God's plan for them before they become adults. What a difference this will make in their future lives when they become parents.
